About Us

The Explore Pahiatua Community Committee is an Incorporated Society that works in partnership with the Tararua District Council to promote all things Pahiatua.

Our committee is involved with an ever-increasing number of projects, all of which are an effort to bring new and vibrant life to our town.

We also have a discretionary grant fund to support our local clubs and non profit organisations.

Do you want to make a difference?  We are always in need of new volunteers to help make Pahiatua a great place to live, work and play.

See below for our projects on the go.

NEW COMMUNITY SWIMMING POOL

The all-new Pahiatua Community Swimming Pool is set to make a splash!  This aquatic facility will be built beside the Wheel Park at Bush Multisports and replace the 100 year old seasonal pool. The innovative Sprung Building will enable year round use of a heated pool for the Southern Tararua. Fundraising and planning efforts are well underway, and our Bush Aquatic Trust is leading the way.

In 2022, the Pahiatua Community Garden got a fresh new look, and Explore Pahiatua led the transformation.

Volunteers have built new raised beds, laid a lime path, planted tons of new fruits and vegetables, held permaculture classes, built a new garden shed, established a seed library, and installed a rain water collection tank.

Experience the joy of community and gardening on Huia Street - a place to grow together.

In mid 2022, the effort began to restore the Carnival Park Bush Reserve to its former glory, ridding it of introduced plant and animal species, and returning it to endemic, native bush.

A community agreement with DOC spearheads the partnership to protect one of the only original stands of 40 mile bush.

The effort will take years but will hopefully last for centuries and generations to come.

ROTARY DOG PARK

Who let the dogs out?  A new dog park has been constructed at Rotary Park, on the corner of Princess and Lawson Street.

Fully fenced with fun dog activities, this area will be a favourite for all dog lovers!

Community Events

Explore Christmas is Pahiatua's annual Christmas parade and market day. Festivities are held in the gorgeous town centre with a music band taking centre stage.  Elf Land is an interactive area for kids, and schools and dance groups keep the crowd entertained.  High quality stalls help to fill Christmas stockings, and food sites fill the tummies!
